Tuesday April 14:

7:30 am

  • My day began bright and early today, as I had a 8:00 am geometry class with Mr. Ecker. Today we worked more on proportions together on a Zoom for about 20 minutes and then were given some homework problems, which we were able to finish on our own.

8:20 am

  • I moved into the office to do this homework using my textbook, and once I was finished it was around 8:50 am.

9:00 am

  • For some reason I was extra tired today, and since I usually have dance after I have math, I knew I did not have another class until around 11:20. I squeezed in a quick nap until around 10:30. I am always grateful for naps whenever I can get them in; that’s a great aspect of this distance learning!

10:30 am

  • Once I woke up, I went into the kitchen and made some coffee and eggs for breakfast.  I enjoyed my breakfast and talked with my mom for a bit.

11:20 am

  • One highlight of even days is my Entrepreneurship class with Ms. Kennedy. I have enjoyed learning about startups and how to create and implement a business model through fun and engaging activities in this class. Ms. Kennedy makes this class fun but also informative, I have learned a lot! Today we had an asynchronous class, and learned about Clearbanc Runway, a company helping reduce the loss of funds in the time of financial downfall, requested partners for our final project, and searched for and learned about a startup or business that is being creative during this time. I wrote about Imperfect Foods, a service that delivers groceries for a reduced price that is working to reduce food waste. Yesterday I put in an order for some of their products that I will get later this week! Lastly, our assignment was to finish our social entrepreneurship slides, where we chose a startup that gives back. I chose Warby Parker and their “Buy-One, Give-One” system as well as their Pupils Project to help students in cities with limited access to glasses, vision screenings, and eye exams.

12:00 pm

  • After my entrepreneurship work I was able to take a break. I had to straighten up my room and put away my laundry before putting in another load. After this I made a quick protein smoothie for a snack, resulting in my brother Max and I arguing for a bit about who gets to use the blender first and who is responsible for the dishes. Since I had some free time before my english class at 2:00 pm, I was able to get a head start on my Chemistry work for tomorrow. I watched videos on Redox Reactions, completed a worksheet and added to a discussion board. I like to knock out most of my work in the beginning of the week so the rest of the week is more relaxed. Having the flexibility to complete my work on my own time is another plus to distance learning!

2:00 pm

  • At 2:00 my English class met for a synchronous discussion. Ms. Park split us into breakout rooms and we discussed the blues as it relates to the book we are currently reading: The Color Purple by Alice Walker. This lasted for around 30 minutes and for homework we are to complete a prompt on our class discussion board and read more letters. I got a start on the prompt and worked for a little while longer.

3:00 pm

  • In history class, we are working on a research paper about culture throughout the Interwar period, so I spent some time working on my draft using the comments Ms. Cullen gave me on my outline. My topic is George Gershwin and his musical impact on the field and America. Earlier in the day, my dad dropped my dogs off at the groomer, and he stopped at the Krispy Kreme drive-through to bring us home a treat. After working on my paper for 50 minutes I fought with my brother about who gets the chocolate glazed donut (he won) and took a break.

4:00 pm

  • During this quarantine, my mom has baked and cooked lots of great food for us. Today my mom and I wanted to try to make creme brulee. We heated some of the ingredients and got small ramekins to pour it in. We made four servings, and put them into a water bath and then baked it. Once it was out of the oven, we had to let it sit for a while. As we waited, we decided to facetime my grandma to say hi. It's really important to stay in touch with your close relatives at this time!

5:00 pm

  • During quarantine, my dad requires us to do some type of exercise every day, whether it's walking down the street or running on the treadmill. Most days, I don't get around to it but today I did a 20-minute Peloton class, which felt good!

5:30 pm

  • After a brief workout, I went upstairs to my room to take a shower before dinner.

6:00 pm

  • Once I was out of the shower, I was supposed to go help set the table and make dinner, but instead, I took a little bit of time to watch some of The Blacklist, a show I have been watching a lot of. It was nice to take a break from so much work and have some time to myself.

6:30 pm

  • I finally went into the kitchen to help set the table (mainly because whoever sets the table before does not have to do the dishes after). For dinner, my mom made Massaman Curry, a Thai dish that I can never have at restaurants due to my nut allergy.

8:00

  • After eating dinner with my family, cleaning, and hearing my brother practice for his zoom Bar Mitzvah, which is on Saturday, I grabbed a greek yogurt ice cream bar from the freezer, (I recommend Yaso mint chocolate chip and brownie), and sat on the couch with my parents to watch some TV. My brother disappears to the basement to play video games for hours, so my parents and I like to watch TV together. My mom and I love Below Deck, so we watched Monday's episode which we had recorded.

9:30

  • Later, it was time to head back to my room. I said goodnight and went to my room to get ready for bed and talk to friends. I spent the remainder of my night on FaceTime or Zoom with friends before watching The Blacklist and going to bed.
