Ring Ceremony Festivities

Elshaday F. ‘27

Ring day is an annual celebration at Bryn Mawr that marks the midpoint of every Bryn Mawr student’s time in upper school. With the warmer weather and the end of the school year approaching, the day is surrounded by excitement and anticipation.

The preparation for Ring Day starts in the winter of sophomore year, when students order their ring of choice. Many students opt to purchase their rings from Jostens, although some choose to have a ring outside of one from Jostens to use for the ceremony. These rings hold sentimental value for many, as they serve as a reminder for the fond memories and transformative experiences from Bryn Mawr. Many alumni and upperclassmen continue to wear their rings on a daily basis. Cynthia Tan ‘27 has chosen to use a ring her mom brang from China for the ring ceremony this year. She thinks of her ring as a “good luck charm”, and is looking forward to being able to make this ring even more meaningful to her at the ring ceremony this spring.

Another integral part of the ring ceremony is the reveal of each student’s “ringy”. In preparation for the ceremony, 12th graders are asked to select a student from the sophomore class to be their ringy. Ringies can be pairs of sisters, close friends, or even acquaintances & strangers. These ‘ring sister’ pairs develop a special bond filled with sisterhood & support. Leading up to Ring Day, many seniors choose to leave small surprises or gifts in their ringies’ mailboxes, adding to the anticipation of the event. During the Ring Ceremony, which takes place in Graduation Garden, the senior ringy is revealed as they emerge from the Gordon Building and present the class rings to each sophomore, welcoming them as upper-classmen at Bryn Mawr.

The festivities and traditions of ring day at Bryn Mawr make for a fun and memorable experience for each sophomore class. Celebrating this milestone is a memory that is cherished by alumni for the rest of their lives.
